Conventional water resources are also known as natural resources.
1 . Conventional water resources
They include the part of the water cycle that corresponds to run-off, the so-called “useful rain”, that is, surface water, rivers and lakes, and groundwater that could be naturally available.
The proportion in which each of them contributes to meeting water demands varies according to the economic, cultural and hydrogeological circumstances of each region or country, so that non-conventional water resources may also be used.
2 . Surface water
Surface water includes inland water bodies, except for groundwater; transitional waters and coastal waters, and, concerning chemical status, also territorial waters.
3 . Groundwater
Groundwater refers to water bodies that are below the surface of the ground.
