The 25 best luxury hotels in Shanghai

Fairmont Peace Hotel

Formerly known as the Cathay Hotel, the Peace Hotel is the other original luxury hotel in Shanghai, and it has long vied with the Park Hotel to be considered the best hotel on the Bund in Shanghai.

It occupies a beautiful old building on the Bund. The rooms and suites at the Peace Hotel, which is now a Fairmont property, combine cutting-edge comfort with period touches. Bathrooms in each room are spacious and decorated with marble and chrome, and they are equipped with every conceivable convenience.

With only 279 rooms (39 of which are suites), the hotel provides a more intimate stay than many of the city's other five-star establishments. The most basic rooms look out onto an interior courtyard, while the suites and deluxe rooms can look out onto the city, the Bund, or the river.

Banyan Tree

Banyan Tree Shanghai On The Bund is located on the Huangpu River, roughly two kilometres from the historic Bund. Due to its slightly removed location, the property, and especially many of the rooms and suites, offer a fantastic panoramic view.

People from all over the world stay at this hotel because it is one of the best in the city. Relax on sun loungers by the ultra-chic indoor swimming pool. Alternately, visit the three-story spa for a relaxing massage, facial, or full-body treatment.

The luxurious beds are dressed in smooth silk sheets and upholstered headboards that are reminiscent of imperial China. Suites here are extravagant to the extreme, with features like plunge pools and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Hotel Indigo Shanghai

There is no better place to stay than this hip boutique Shanghai hotel's prime location on the Bund, making it easy to explore the rest of the city on foot. Like all Hotel Indigo locations, this one successfully incorporates the surrounding community into its design.

The lobby, which was once river docks, features rusty rickshaws and shipyard scraps, and the rooms, which feature local artwork and images, both serve to remind guests of the area's rich history.

Capella Shanghai

Capella Shanghai's Jian Ye Li is just 0.6 km from the Zhaojiabang station on Lines 7 and 9 in the district of Xuhui, which is a cultural preservation zone. The Shanghai Bund is only 2.5 kilometres away.

Each villa has its private courtyard, living room, and entertainment room with a 55-inch flat-screen TV and a branded sound system. The bedrooms are decorated in calming tones of pale green and dark wood and feature a writing desk, walk-in closet, and bespoke furniture.

Waldorf Astoria

The Waldorf Astoria is a popular choice among China's high rollers due to its stunning location on two elegant buildings overlooking the Bund river and proximity to the serene Yu Garden and Pudong Riverside Promenade.

Every one of the 206 suites offers spectacular views of the river and the surrounding city, in addition to high-end conveniences like free WiFi, minibars, soundproof walls, and flat-screen TVs.

Beautiful floral arrangements, marble bathrooms, silk bedcovers, and plush four-poster beds are just some of the luxurious touches that can be found in the hotel's suites and rooms, which are thoughtfully decorated in a blend of neoclassical design and Oriental accents.

In addition to superb amenities and breathtaking vistas, guests can dine at one of six exceptional restaurants. Grand Brasserie, which overlooks a beautiful garden and is perfect for families, Pelham, which serves exquisite French cuisine, Wei Jing Ge, which serves traditional Chinese fare, and Long Bar, a favourite of Martini aficionados.

Grand Hyatt

This hotel, which occupies floors 53 through 87 of the prestigious Jin Mao Tower (itself 88 stories tall), enjoys unparalleled panoramas of the entire city. This 548-room hotel can be found in the heart of Pudong's financial and commercial district, Lujiazui.

The Grand Hyatt Shanghai, the crown jewel of Hyatt International in China (though not quite as good as its Park Hyatt sibling, cf infra), provides superior service and amenities to international business travellers.

The hotel is a landmark because it features one of the largest food and beverage operations within the Hyatt group, with no less than ten unique restaurants and bars.
