Smallest Town in Alabama – Everyone Would Fit On A Basketball Team
Alabama is not a state on many people’s radar. Unless you live there, you never think of it. When it’s mentioned, an instant image connotative or denotative you pick pops into your head. No matter your perceptions, I bet you do not know something more significant, like how big their smallest town is.
There is a town, McMullen. That is no bigger than a basketball team. A whole town could make up just one NBA team, with 12 players at most.
About Alabama
Alabama is a state known for its southern hospitality. The locals are known to be incredibly inviting. With nonstop chatter inquiring where you are from and how you ended up in their beautiful state.
In addition to being super kind, they LOVE their state, being more than happy to tell you all things Alabama. In a form with a thick history, you will surely hear everything they know.
Culture
Alabama is based on art. Coincidentally, a lot of great art forms started here. The Britannica Encyclopediais a great resource. I found information there on their musical culture. Country music and ragtime jazz have solid roots spread deep throughout Alabama.
Besides being a musical paradise, several art forms have come from this quiet state. Storytelling, aka writing, has garnered the state a lot of attention. Several famous writers, such as Booker T. Washington and Hellen Keller, have hailed from Alabama.
Not only do they house Mardi Gras, but a Shakespearean Festival celebrates the works of the Legend every year.
Food
I can explain this section in just three words. Fried Green Tomatoes. This dish is famous here and probably made the best here! Another 3-word combo to further express the deliciousness. White BBQ Sauce. I guarantee you, you don’t know.
Alabama is KNOWN for barbeque (southern state). They have their own sauce. They do. It is White BBQ Sauce, and if you know, you know. If you don’t, you don’t.
Often, their food is described as the best southern cuisine. I can attest to this. I have read it several times from several different sources.
Nature
The waters in Alabama are said to be charming. Beautiful, pristine, breathtaking, and everything you would want them to be.
The Nature Conservancy strongly believes “our state is the center of the world’s biological diversity of freshwater invertebrates and the continental center of diversity for many other plants and animals. Hundreds of species in Alabama are found nowhere else on Earth.”
Is there any other explanation you need? Just in case, I have more. They are home to several LARGE public lakes, with events like water skiing.
Alabama Archives
Getting its claim to fame in 1819, Alabama was the 22nd state to be formed. United States History has several stories told here. In 1830, cotton was how the state made its money. Covered in plantations, the slave trade has several documents on file here. In 1861, they finally joined the Confederate States of America after finally quitting- the Union.
Between 1861 and 1900, Alabama had trouble getting its priorities in order. Their government changed hands and directions several times. For instance, after departing from the Union in 1861, they rejoined it 6 years later in 1867. Only for a small period before re-writing a whole new one for their state, essentially trying to start over with more modernized ideas. This process continued for several years before they finally figured it out.
The Great Depression in the 1930s ruined many people’s lives, and Alabama was no exception. Farmers everywhere lost their profits and property. Financial damages dragged the state down until Tennessee stepped in with some aid.
In the 1950s, the civil rights movement had hit Alabama hard. With several newsworthy stories that floated worldwide, Alabama was setting up the basis for equality that the rest of the world followed. Alabama SET the bar. We need to lift it.
When did Alabama become the Alabama we know now? An exact date has not been set. Yet, the Alabama League of Municipalities says that sometime “between 1901 and 1907, the Legislature began passing general laws relating to the creation and operation of Alabama municipalities.”
Below is a brief overview of what Alabama currently consists of.
