See a Grizzly Bear Surprise Mountain Bikers And Chase After Them
Crossing a grizzly bear is never something that anyone would want to do in the wild. But having one chase after you has to be even more terrifying! And while our general advice would be to never run from a grizzly bear, in this case, these mountain bikers were already biking downhill and had little to no choice but to keep going.
Grizzly Bear Sighting
The next YouTube video at the bottom of this blog post takes us to some mountain bikers who had an unexpected guest. This video was shared by the Dusan Vinzik YouTube page. This channel is located in Slovakia, in Central Europe.
This channel has received more than 16 million views across all their videos since 2009. We can see videos such as entertainment, ziplining, and various other outdoor activities.
Grizzly Bear Vs. Mountain Bikers
At the start of this video, we see a few mountain bikers who are traveling down the side of this mountain. They are on the downslope and going at a fast speed. They are going so fast that it is hard to see. But, if you pause the video at nine seconds, we can clearly see this massive grizzly bear barreling straight towards them!
Most of the mountain bike videos that we have come across where the bikers come across wild animals are when animals pass by on the path. However, this one clearly saw the bikers and decided they shouldn’t be on this path!
The biker in front is trying his best to get away. And while you might be wondering why the second biker didn’t just stop, it is two-fold. For one, they are going down the mountain, so stopping on a dime is pretty much impossible. Secondly, he was probably ensuring his friend was okay.
Then, after 20 seconds, the grizzly bear decides he’s had enough of this chase, and he wanders off the path.
How Fast Can a Grizzly Bear Run?
Grizzly bears (Ursus arctos Horriblis) of the family Ursidae are known to be able to reach up to speeds of 35 miles per hour. And while we know this is fast, we need to appreciate that this is a large bear that can weigh upwards of 900 pounds and reach up to 10 feet in length. We do admit that having something of that size barrel towards you at 35 miles per hour is scary.
It is estimated that a professional mountain biker going downhill can reach up to speeds of 20 miles per hour. Which is probably why this grizzly bear was getting a workout in trying to catch up to them before he decided he’d have enough.
