Foolish Hyena Invites Itself to a Leopards Kill, Then Gets Bounced Real Quick
Nothing is worse in the animal kingdom than having your food stolen from you. Have you ever wondered why predators are always so close to their food in videos? And why are they constantly looking around? That is because they are looking for any imminent danger that might be coming to steal their food.
Hyena and Leopard Sighting in India
The next YouTube video posted at the bottom of this blog post shares footage of a hyena and leopard getting into it. This video was filmed and shared by the Khan Saab YouTube page. This channel takes place in India, and he has garnered more than 47 million views in just a year since he created this channel. We will see various animals on his page, such as jaguars, lions, wild dogs, and zebras, to name a few.
“Eventually, the leopard will use its speed, agility, and experience to break through the hyena’s defenses and land a fatal bite. Sure, the hyena might give as good as it gets so that the leopard could take some damage. In the end, though, the leopard wins one on one fight in this final leopard wins.”
Hyena Vs. Leopard
At the start of this video shown below, we see that a leopard has completed a kill and is enjoying it. What this video doesn’t show is all the world this leopard did to get up to this point. His hard work is paying off, and he can finally relax and eat. However, not before a wild hyena shows up, and he’s looking to be a thief and steal this kill right out from under this leopard’s nose.
Imagine if you spent all day hunting for food, running it down, and killing it only not to be able to enjoy it. You’d probably be pretty mad, right? Well, so is this leopard! We see them both struggle back and forth between each other. They both grab hold of this animal with their powerful bites. Only this hyena is hungry and has a strong bite force. So, he is starting to gain some traction.
Suddenly, at 29 seconds, we see that this leopard has quite frankly had enough. He viciously lashes out at this hyena and strikes him with his paw. We hear the sounds of this hyena whimpering, and he quickly backs off and runs away.
How Strong is a Hyneas Bite Force?
Hyenas (Crocuta crocuta) of the family Hyaenidae, while not known for their looks, are indeed known for their tremendous bite force. These scraggly animals weighing up to 190 pounds can probably be labeled the “thieves of the animal kingdom.” Instead of always putting in the work to get their own food, we often see them stealing kills from other predators.
To steal a kill from other powerful predators such as leopards, lions, and cheetahs takes a lot of strength and bite force. The hyena has a bite force of 1,100 PSI. This is an extremely powerful bite force. Lions are known to have less than 1,000 PSI and normally around 650.
