Witness Pure Dominance When a Proud Lion Bullies a Group of Lionesses Away From His Food
Ever heard the phrase, “if you work, you eat.” Basically, what this is saying is that if you work for something, there are fruits of your labor. If you finish your work week and get paid, then you’ll be able to go to the grocery store or to a restaurant. However, the rules in lion land are a bit different.
Lion Pride Sighting in Maasai Mara
The next YouTube video posted at the bottom of this blog post takes us to the Maasai Mara, otherwise known as the Masai Mara, located in Kenya, Africa. This video was uploaded by the Maasai Sightings YouTube page. This channel shares footage of animals in the wild that are often captured while tourists are touring through the open plains of Africa.
“Male lions defend the pride’s territory while females do most of the hunting. Despite this, the males eat first. When they have killed something, there is a hierarchy that comes into play, where the more dominant lions will feed on the kill first. So in all cases, the male lions will feed first, as they always dominate over all the females because they are bigger, and are more dominant.”
Lion Pride Vs. Bully Lion
At the start of this video, we see a lion pride that has just recently come back from a hunt. The lionesses are the hunters in the “family,” and as such, you would think they should be the ones to eat first, right? Wrong.
We suddenly see, at nine seconds, a massive dominant male lion that is approaching from behind. And he is not a happy camper. He sees that this pride is doing something against nature. They have already started to eat this large hippo.
The male lion slowly approaches as if he can’t believe it. The pride is alerted to his presence. They all back off. Well, except for one. We see the male lion rush in to show his dominance and that he’s willing to fight for his right to eat first.
The pride soon disperses and allows the male lion to have the room he needs.
What Hunts Hippos?

Animals like the Nile crocodile, lions, and hyenas will go after young hippos. However, it might shock you to know that the full-grown hippo has few predators. Their size is so enormous that most animals in the wild would not even dare to attempt to take on a mature adult hippo.
The hippo (Hippopotamus amphibius) adult weighs as much as 9,900 pounds and is able to reach up to 16+ feet in length. Put this into comparison with lions that weigh anywhere from 250-550 pounds, this hunt and take down had to be an intense one.
