Alligator Sighting in South Carolina
The next YouTube video posted at the bottom of this blog post takes us to the great state of South Carolina in the United States. This video was uploaded and shared by the Island Packet YouTube channel. This page offers news from Jasper, Hampton, and Beaufort counties within South Carolina.
“This video shows a large number of alligators bellowing, courtesy of Christine Smith Photography. It was recorded on the morning of May 24, 2015 at Donnelly Wildlife Management Area in Green Pond, S.C. Close up video shows the water literally dance at the gators back and sides due to the vocalization and infrasound emitted by the gators to attract mates and declare territory.”
Alligators Do a Water Dance
At the start of this video posted at the bottom, we see a lake that is filled with dozens of alligators. Although, at first, we can’t really pick how many there are, as the video progresses, we are able to see just how many there are.
Now, let’s think back to the last time you went to a dance performance. Whether that was a little ballet performance for a kid’s performance or if you went to a professional dance performance, they all have one thing in common.
We see the dancers all working together as one unit. This is usually what astounds the audience. Their ability to work cohesively and as one is what sets apart the great dance groups from the average ones.
Well, this video showcases a type of dance with these gators. We see slowly gators sporadically raising their bodies above water in a graceful and majestic type way.
How Many Alligators Are in South Carolina?
The American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) of the family Alligatoridae is found in Asia and North America. There is estimated to be a population of four million alligators. Their population is abundant, and their conservation status is of the least concern.
It is estimated that there are approximately 100,000 living in South Carolina alone. And while this number might seem very large to you, it is of no comparison to Florida, with over one million, and Louisiana, with over two million!
