Watch Rescuers Brilliantly Free a Trapped Humpback Whale From a Stray Rope
There are many things in the wild that an animal has to be concerned with. They are concerned with things such as predators, food availability, and places to make their homes. And with all this, they also have to be wary of manmade things that can hurt them. We see this happening in the video posted below.
Humpback Whale Sighting in Australia
The next YouTube video posted at the bottom of this blog post takes us to the great land of Australia, or rather, the great waters of Australia. This video was uploaded by the Storyful Viral YouTube channel. This page is dedicated to offering videos about animals, world events, interest stories, and more.
They have over 998 million views across all their videos. We see videos of animals such as cats, bears, foxes, moose, and otters, to name a few. In this video, Storyful Viral says, “A humpback whale was rescued after getting tangled in rope and chains attached to a buoy off the southern coast of Australia earlier this month, the Sea World Foundation said.”
Humpback Whale Rescued
At the start of this video posted below, we are able to see a massive humpback whale that is floating in the water. Only he isn’t just relaxing and getting some sun on the surface. He is tangled up in some rope that is attached to this nearby buoy we can see.
Unable to get out, the more this animal thrashes around, the more tangled it gets around his entire body. While this might not seem like a huge deal to us as humans, for an animal in the wild, it can be life-threatening.
Then, at 22 seconds, we see some good samaritans pass by in a boat. They are able to assist this animal with getting this rope off from his body.
We would issue a warning, then, that if you ever encounter an animal caught in the wild, be extra cautious. Most of us all have bleeding hearts to want to help animals. However, they don’t know you’re trying to help. They are in a vulnerable state and are in a panic over not being free, and they will likely see anything coming from a human as a threat. So, proceed with caution when helping our animal friends.
How Fast Can Humpback Whales Swim?
In order to appreciate how fast humpback whales can swim, we first need to understand just how much these whales weigh. The humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) of the genus Megaptera weighs anywhere from 40-100 tons and can reach incredible lengths of 48-62 feet.
Even with this giant size, they are still able to reach up to 16.5 miles per hour. This is usually in an instance of danger. So, it would be a short burst. Most humpback whales will travel at speeds of 3-9 miles per hour. Regardless, if you think about it, this is incredibly fast, much faster than a human, which typically can only swim a few miles per hour.
