Chongqing scenery paper cutting: elegant Shapingba

Shapingba District is the main urban area of Chongqing and one of the major metropolitan areas of Chongqing. It has a history of more than 3000 years since its establishment as a territory of Ba State during the Zhou Dynasty.  

Shapingba District is located in the southwest of Chongqing, bordering Jialing River to the east and Jinyun Mountain to the west. It is a science, education, and cultural district in Chongqing. Chongqing University City is located in the west of Shapingba District, integrating Ba Yu culture, Sha Ci culture, Anti Japanese War culture, and Hongyan culture. It is an important birthplace of the Hongyan spirit.  

Shapingba District is adjacent to Jiangbei District and Yubei District to the east, Yuzhong District to the southeast, Beibei District to the northeast, Jiulongpo District to the south, Bishan District to the west, and is adjacent to Chongqing High tech Industrial Development Zone and Northern New Area. As of 2013, Shapingba District has jurisdiction over 17 streets and 7 towns, covering an area of 396.2 square kilometers. At the end of 2012, the permanent population of Shapingba District was 1.0807 million.  

Shapingba District is a "National Model City for Double Support" and has been awarded honorary titles such as "Advanced County in National Cultural Relics Work" and "Advanced Collective in City Flood Control and Disaster Relief Work".
