Dominate Lion Is Tired Of Having His Sons Around and Banishes Them From the Pride
The love between father and son is quite different in the wild. We often see situations where fathers turn on their sons by sometimes eating them or banishing them. While this seems extremely cruel to us, this is how they are in the wild. This is the way of how they survive in the wild. Let’s see a grueling banishment below.
Lions Sighting in the Masai Mara
The next YouTube video shown at the bottom of this blog post takes us to the Masai Mara in Kenya, Africa. This video was uploaded and shared by the Maasai Sightings YouTube page. This channel shares footage of animals such as cheetahs, leopards, lions, zebras, hyenas, and elephants, to name a few. They share a short description of what happens in the video below.
“A lion pride may include up to three males, a dozen females, and their young. All of a pride’s female lionesses and cubs are typically related. At around two to three years old, young males leave the pride and attempt to take over another male’s pride.”
Father Lion Vs. Sons Lions
At the start of the video, we are taken to the Masai Mara, otherwise commonly known as the Maasai Mara. The Masai Mara is a large game reserve where seeing lions is frequent. The lion pride is out, and the tourists stop to capture what will happen next.
We see that the father of this pride, who is known as the dominant male, is kicking his sons out of the pride. The editors of the video share that “At around two years old, young male lions are kicked out of their pride by the father.” The one young lion was apparently walking too slow for this father, and we see him rush in and growl loudly. The son falls to the ground, and the father walks passed.
He is interested now in his other young son, who is just ahead. The dominant lion is ensuring he is leaving, too. He stands there and lowly growls. He is letting both of his sons know this is his territory and his pride. And they need to find their own.
How Do Lions Form Prides?
What will these young lions do now that they are kicked out of this pride? As harsh as this way of life may seem, it is necessary in order for these male lions to succeed on their own. These young male lions will now go to try and find another pride to live in. Only, they won’t just be accepted like they are paying a membership fee. No, they will have to fight the male-dominant lion of that pride in order to take over.
