The cost of driving places has become a huge topic of discussion in the United States. Rising gas prices has made it to where people only drive when they absolutely need to. This is much different from when people would drive because they wanted to clear their head or get out and about. This has also cut down on the amount of road trips people are wanting to take. If you are taking a roadtrip, odds are you’ll be passing through Oklahoma at one point. This is because Oklahoma is located almost in the middle of the country. If you’re looking for a place to fill up at, these are the cheapest towns to fill up in, according to GasBuddy.

Midwest City—$2.54

If possible, your first stop should be in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Midwest City is to the east of Oklahoma City, and right off I-40. This is the perfect place to fill up because you’re still in a suburban area and can get lots to eat while getting your gas. The average price of gas here is $2.54, making it one of the overall cheapest places to get gas in the entire United States.

The capital and largest city in the state of Oklahoma is making sure its citizens and those passing through have cheap access to gas, with an average price of $2.64 per gallon. If you’re flying in and renting a car to go elsewhere, make sure you’re filled up before leaving, unless you’re going towards Midwest City of course.

Stillwater—$2.66

A little northeast of Oklahoma City off I-35 and the home of Oklahoma State University is Stillwater, Oklahoma. While it might be a little out of the way, getting gas in Stillwater is a good thing to do. If you’re driving in from Kansas and going towards Tulsa, you’ll be stopping through Stillwater. The average cost of gas is $2.66 per gallon and is appreciated by those who go to school and pass through Stillwater.

Lawton—$2.70

Driving through the southwestern part of Oklahoma means you’ll probably be passing through Lawton, Oklahoma. This town is right next to the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge and off I-44. If you’re going this way, you’re probably heading for Wichita Falls, Texas, or taking the scenic route to Dallas from Oklahoma City. Either way, with gas prices averaging $2.70, it’s the perfect place to stop and fill up.

Tulsa—$2.75

Tulsa is right in the middle of the Cherokee Nation and Osage Nation Reservation. Whenever you’re driving through Tulsa, you can expect to find affordably priced gas. The average per gallon is only $2.75. You’re more than likely heading towards Arkansas if you pass through Tulsa. To the west of Lawton is a town named Atlus, and they are one of the best stops to get gas. Atlus is right off Highway 62 and Highway 283, and right next to Quartz Mountain State Park. There are tons of back roads and beautiful places to get out and take great pictures of if you’re looking to see the roads less traveled in the United States. You won’t have to worry about breaking the bank for gas, with prices averaging $2.79.

Durant—$2.79

Another great stop on the drive into Dallas is Durant. Durant is located right next to the famous Lake Texoma, part of the Texas-Oklahoma border. More than likely, you’d be going to Durant if you’re driving from Tulsa to get to Dallas. The gorgeous views and nature that surrounds Durant makes it easy to understand why you’d take that route. Gas is also pretty cheap in Durant, averaging $2.79 per gallon.

Miami—$2.79

Once you’re ready to continue your drive, it’ll only cost you $2.79 per gallon to fill up in Miami.

Almost as far northeast as you can get in Oklahoma is Miami. This is the perfect city to stop in and take a break if you’re driving from Tulsa toward Missouri. You can also take a dip in the Grand Lake O’ The Cherokees, since Miami is right next to it. There are plenty of eating options you can find in Miami as well. Once you’re ready to continue your drive, it’ll only cost you $2.79 per gallon to fill up in Miami.

Shawnee—$2.82

Even though, if you missed Midwest City or Oklahoma City, it’s smart to fill up. While in Shawnee, you’ll have access to the Shawnee Reservoir and Wes Watkins Reservoir. Shawnee is also the home of Oklahoma Baptist University. Gas is $2.82 per gallon, so make sure you stop in, take a dip in the reservoirs there, and ensure you’re tank is ready to go.

Ardmore—$2.89

Almost exactly halfway between Oklahoma City and Dallas is Ardmore. It’s smart for this town to try to have competitive gas prices with the rest of the state, being as though they attract lots of clients. Ardmore is also right next to Lake Murray State Park. It’s not a small town either, with almost 25,000 residents. There are plenty of local places to shop at and dine in if you find yourself on this drive. Since their average cost per gallon is only $2.89, it’s smart to fill up, even if you’re not all the way empty or need to. You never know when having the extra gas will help.

Duncan—$2.89

On the edge of the Chickasaw Nation is Duncan, Oklahoma. This town sits right next to multiple lakes and rivers, including the Waurika Lake. Duncan is also close to Lawton, another town that previously made this list of cheapest gas. You’d find yourself in Duncan if you were on Highway 81 and taking the scenic route through Oklahoma. With almost 5,000 people living there, Duncan is the perfect place to experience what the easy and remote life in Oklahoma is like. Gas is only $2.89 per gallon, so even if you’re just passing through, you’ll still be getting an excellent deal.
