When people think of Kansas, they typically think of the larger cities, like the state capital Topeka or its largest city of Wichita. However, Kansas is home to lots of small towns. In fact, it only has five cities with more than 100,000 people. There are 627 incorporated cities in the state, but the smallest city in Kansas has a population so small that its residents can fit in a large SUV.

Kansas is in the Midwestern United States. It is a landlocked state bordered by Nebraska to the north; Missouri to the east; Oklahoma to the south; and Colorado to the west. Kansas is the 35th most populous state in the United States with a population of almost 3 million people.

Kansas entered the Union as a free state in 1861. By 1890, most of the land was occupied, and it became known for its agriculture. For a long time, Kansas was seen as the United States’ agricultural heartland. Nine-tenths of the land area is used for agricultural purposes. This might explain its small cities and an entire population of less than 3 million.

Kansas is also known as the Sunflower State. It has more than 20 wildflower trails in rural and urban areas. A popular destination to see wildflowers is the Maxwell Wildlife Refuge.

The state also has one of the most miles of river than any other state in the Great Plains. It is also home to the world’s largest contiguous tall grass prairie.

In addition, Kansas is the largest producer of wheat in the United States. It is also known for its barbecue.
