There are many animals that bring terror to our hearts when we see them. We think of animals such as sharks, bears, or pythons. However, we would be remiss if we didn’t also add the massive saltwater crocodile. There are many things to fear about this animal. Things such as his size, armored skin, speed, bite force, and ability to fight like none other. Don’t miss the action in the video above!
Saltwater Crocodile Sighting in Australia
The educational YouTube video posted at the top shares footage of a massive saltwater crocodile. Given that the man filming has an Australian accent, we are assuming this is where it takes place. The Bent on Fishing YouTube page filmed and shared this video with his 5,000 subscribers. His most recent content is on land-based fishing, kids going fishing, and taking a huge boat out on the water.
This Crocodile Can Hide Better Than Any Animal We’ve Ever Seen
As the video above starts out, we see a small sliver of water that is built into this animal enclosure. Given that there is a fence, we are assuming this is a conservation of some kind where animals are taken care of.
The water is muddy and extremely murky. Suddenly, we see an animal keeper come out with a bucket and a stick. He begins hitting the clouded water. Odd that he would do this as there is nothing there…unless there is (insert dramatic music.) Suddenly, we see scales start to emerge through this gloomy water. Almost as if this is a scene taken out of Godzilla where he comes out of the ocean.
Suddenly, a saltwater crocodile leaps out of the water and lunges at the animal keeper. According to the History Channel, “Most (saltwater crocodile) attacks occur near or in the water.” It is lucky that this animal professional knew how to back up just in time before he fed him.
What Do Saltwater Crocodiles Eat?
As we can imagine, the saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) is a gigantic beast with an even bigger stomach. According to the Australian Northern Territory Government saltwater crocodiles are carnivores that will prey on anything they can get their jaws on such as turtles, goannas, snakes, birds, livestock, buffalo, wild boar, and mud crabs. However, they mostly will just eat fish.
These reptiles like to hunt at night and never should be underestimated. Of course, we want to imagine that these crocodiles will keep to themselves. And while this is true, the Wilderness and Environmental Medicine Journal reminds us that attacks are possible. There have been at least 62 confirmed cases of unprovoked attacks. So, a word to the wise is to stay clear of them if you can.
