Finding an animal trapped is perhaps one of the worst things to watch. Whether they find themselves trapped in a fence, in a hole, caught in a fishing net, or wandered into a grocery store. Yes, that really happened. Check it out.

And all we want to do as humans is to help rescue them. But, as we know animals who are trapped are already panicky. And while we have good intentions, animals can’t communicate with us to understand that we are doing it for their benefit. So, we have to be careful how we approach them. Don’t miss the video above to see what these trapped deer do!

Deer Trapped Behind Fence

This short YouTube clip can be found at the top of this blog post. The Abi’s Animals YouTube page reposted this video of deer who find themselves behind a fence. This channel shares videos weekly of guinea pigs, bunny rabbits, ducks, and more.

The Great Deer Escape

As the video above starts out, we see that there is a small fence surrounding what looks like a dog house. There is a pool of water there as well. But, there are no dogs here. Instead, there are two deer that wandered inside. But, once they did the gate closed, and they couldn’t get out.

Frantically, they are throwing their bodies up against the fence, looking for any avenue to escape. If you’re like us, you are at first wondering why they didn’t just jump over. According to the University of Arizona, “Deer can and will jump fences under 8 feet. Small areas can be protected with shorter fences (4 to 6 feet) as deer do not like to jump into small enclosed spaces.” However, it looks as though there is a tarp overhead, which prevents them from jumping out.

After several attempts, they finally broke out, and are seen fleeing as fast as they can to get away.

How Fast Can Deer Run?

The speed of any animal largely depends on their species. With an estimated over 40 species of deer, they can run anywhere between 30-45 miles per hour. With speeds like this, it makes it easy for them to run high over fences or barriers. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources shares that “The ability to run fast and jump high is a survival adaptation.”

Which in turn helps them to evade predators such as bears, mountain lions, jaguars, tigers, coyotes, and wolves. Although many of these animals can also run the same speed or more, the deer has an incredible ability to sniff out predators which can give them the running head start that they need for survival.
