Dreaming of an Eclipse: Discover the Spiritual Meaning and Interpretation
There is something so special and mystifying about eclipses. Typically, they are a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence, twice if you’re lucky! You’re more likely to dream of an eclipse than see one in real life. But what does it mean if you start dreaming of an eclipse?
Dreams hold a lot of power. They can sometimes tell us things we don’t want to hear, using symbolism. This can be in the form of weather events, animals, colors, and even eclipses. An eclipse, though, can mean multiple things. Follow along to discover the symbolism and meanings behind dreaming of eclipses.
What is An Eclipse?
Before we dive into the symbolism behind eclipses, let’s learn what they are! An eclipse is when a celestial body either partially or completely passes and casts a shadow on another celestial body. This can happen with either the moon or the sun. There are two types of eclipses.
Solar Eclipse
A solar eclipse occurs when the sun, moon, and earth are perfectly aligned. When this occurs, a large shadow is cast on Earth as the moon blocks the sun’s light. Solar eclipses aren’t always visible to everyone, although they happen at around the same frequency as lunar eclipses. According to the European Space Agency, solar eclipses happen every 16 months, give or take.
Lunar Eclipse
The other type of eclipse is the lunar eclipse. During this incredible event, the earth moves between the sun and the moon. This leads to the moon being shaded by the earth. During a total lunar eclipse, the moon may look reddish. Lunar eclipses, though, are often partial. They happen about five times a year. You don’t need any special tools either, just your eyes and the sky, to see a lunar eclipse.
Spiritual Symbolism and Interpretation
If you’re dreaming about an eclipse, it can mean a variety of different things. The type of eclipse may matter, or it might not matter at all! Our minds are strange like that.
Celestial events have captivated humans for centuries, so it is no surprise that there are a lot of meanings involved. However, interpreting dreams is rarely straightforward. Here are some of the more general meanings of the eclipse:
Transformation and Change
Eclipses typically represent a disruption in how things are. Therefore, in dreams, eclipses may indicate that how things are is about to change. While you might guess that these changes are significant, they aren’t always.
Yes, eclipse dreams can indicate a new phase of your life, like a career change or a new relationship. However, they may also indicate that you’re getting a new mailman. It can be hard to tell the difference!
Loss and Renewal
The darkness of the eclipse can also indicate a loss. After all, you’re losing the light of the sun or moon. Eclipses often indicate a difficult period you’ll face, which may involve letting go. However, this often goes right alongside transformation and change. Therefore, everything isn’t all bad. You may just want to prepare for some upheaval.
We recommend embracing the potential renewal that comes with this period – not focusing on the loss involved. However, denying that there isn’t any loss wouldn’t be helpful.
Duality
Eclipses involve bringing two celestial bodies together. Often, these are the sun and the moon, which are often considered opposing forces. When these two forces come together in your dream, it can indicate some overarching duality in your own life – whether that is good or bad.
For instance, there may be some conflict between your conscious and unconscious mind. Perhaps the duality doesn’t have anything to do with the moon and the sun in particular. It could just indicate that you’re being pulled in two different directions.
The eclipse dream may indicate that you need to take a look at any points of duality in your own life. They may be preventing you from moving forward or could indicate a potential divergence of your path.
Bad
Eclipses were often seen as bad omens in the past. Therefore, you can still interpret it as a bad omen, though, once again, this is more related to the transformation that eclipses bring. Many interpretations still draw on this general negativity, but you don’t need to let it scare you.
Interpreting Your Eclipse Dream
Based on all those meanings, how do you best interpret an eclipse dream? Well, it can depend largely on the answers to certain questions. After you have a dream, here are some questions that you need to answer:
- What type of eclipse was it?
- How do you feel in the dream?
- What was the landscape like?
- What happened after the eclipse?
These particulars can point towards the exact coloring you need to apply to the meanings above. Dream interpretation is symbolic meanings personal coloring = meaning. You have to apply how you felt (and currently feel) about the dream to figure out what the symbol of the eclipse means to you.
