"Shrek 5" is set to release July 1, 2026, per DreamWorks' announcement. This marks 16 years since Shrek was on the screen. The fourth "Shrek" installment, "Shrek Forever After," came out in 2010. The release date will also come in time to celebrate the franchise's 25th anniversary.

According to DreamWorks, Mike Meyers and Eddie Murphy — the original cast members who brought Shrek and Donkey to life, respectively — are returning. Cameron Diaz, who announced her retirement from acting back in 2018, has also joined the cast to reprise her role as Shrek's wife, Fiona.
