用英語講中囯傳統故事——a snipe and a clam locked in combat 鷸蜯相爭
On a sunny day, a clam emerged from the river.
It slowly crawled to the shore and opened its shell to bask in the sun.
At this moment, a snipe flew over.
Seeing the open shell, the snipe immediately extended its long beak inside to peck at the clam.
The clam quickly closed its shell, tightly clamping the snipe's beak.
The snipe angrily said, "If it doesn't rain today and tomorrow, you'll dry to death."
The clam retorted, "If your beak can't get out today and tomorrow, you'll starve to death."
Neither of them was willing to give in, and so they remained deadlocked.
At this moment, a fisherman passed by. Seeing them locked in a stalemate, he easily caught them both with his net.
The fisherman happily said, "Today is truly lucky, I caught both a big clam and a fat snipe at once."
When both sides refuse to compromise, they only end up hurting each other, allowing a third party to benefit.
