用英語講中囯傳統故事——A Loss may turn out to be a Gain 揌翁失馬
Once upon a time, there was an open-minded old man named Sai Weng at the frontier.
One day, one of Sai Weng's horses was lost.
When the neighbors learned about it, they all came to comfort him.
But Sai Weng didn't care, "The loss of the horse might not be a bad thing. Maybe it will bring good luck."
A few days later, that horse returned, bringing along a fine steed from the nomadic tribes.
The neighbors came together to congratulate him again.
But Sai Weng frowned and said, "Getting a steed for nothing might not be a good thing."
Sai Weng's son liked this steed very much and rode it out to play every day.
Unexpectedly, the untamed horse threw him off, and he broke his leg.
When the neighbors heard this unfortunate news, they all came to console him.
But Sai Weng said, "Although his leg is lame, it might not be a bad thing!"
One year later, the nomadic tribes invaded.
All the strong and young men at the frontier were enlisted, and most of them died on the battlefield.
Sai Weng's son, because of his broken leg, was not drafted and thus survived.
From this, it can be seen that good things and bad things are not absolute.
The development of things is changeable. Sometimes things that seem bad might bring unexpected joys.
