3. Windy Acres Farms

Windy Acres Farm is a great place to fill up on some warm apple cider donuts before heading out to the apple-picking fields. Some of the varieties of apples they offer are “Cortland, Crimson Crisp, Snow Sweet, Gala, Fuji, Macintosh, Macoun, Crimson Gold, Autumn Crisp, Empire, Melrose, and Sansa.” Nestled in the adorable town of Calverton, this orchard is located right off a major road. Its convenient location makes it an easy and quick stop to add to your trip out east.

Unlike some of our other entries, apple picking at this orchard is split between two locations. In Aquebogue, you’re able to pick apples on all weekdays excluding Wednesdays. However, that doesn’t mean that it isn’t worth making the trip out there on Saturday or Sunday. On the weekends, the Aquebogue location offers a variety of baked goods and hard ciders to sample. In Jamesport, apple picking takes place on weekends only. Be sure to bring some cash, as this location does not accept credit.
5. Seven Ponds Orchard

The Seven Ponds Orchard in Water Mill is a hidden gem among all the farms on Long Island that offer apple picking. This small and quaint farm is perfect for families with young children, as they offer activities specifically geared towards kids. Their main attraction (outside of the orchard, of course) is a large wooden playground. There are eight varieties of apples to pick, including their newest addition, the Lucy Glo apple. This apple may appear normal on the outside, but once you bite into it, the flesh of the fruit is a pinkish-red tone!
6. Hank’s Pumpkintown

Located in the beautiful and scenic Water Mill, Hank’s Pumpkintown offers much more than just apple picking. This is a great family farm that offers activities for all age groups. According to their website, this apple orchard offers “pumpkin picking, apple picking, corn mazes, wagon rides, tractor train rides, giant slides, games, playgrounds, and more.” In addition, they also have a bakery full of goodies made with the fruit grown on-site. Hank’s Pumpkintown just reopened for the season on September 16th, so there are plenty of apples ready to be picked!
7. Wickham’s Fruit Farm

It’s no secret that Wickham’s Fruit Farm is a local favorite. Open from May to December each year, they rotate what crops are available to pick based on what’s in season. In the early summer, this farm offers strawberry, raspberry, and blueberry picking. As the weather cools down, apple, peach, and pumpkin picking become available in the fall. Luckily, their sprawling apple orchard is likely the most impressive U-pick experience of all. Just be aware that this farm is closed on Sundays if you are planning to make a weekend trip.
Final Thoughts
Long Island boasts a wide variety of places to go apple picking. It’s no easy choice to pick just one of these wonderful orchards, but luckily, most of our entries are within a 30-minute driving distance of one another. You can stock up on apples at one, have your children play on the playgrounds at a second, and end the day with a hard cider at another! Regardless if you choose to spend your day at a one-stop family farm or enjoy the boutique charm of a smaller orchard, any of the farms listed here will leave you satisfied.
