Lion and Buffalo Sighting in Serengeti National Park
The next YouTube video posted at the top of this blog post takes us to the Serengeti National Park, which is located in Tanzania. This video was shared by the Overland and More YouTube page. This channel shares a variety of videos on animals, nature, sunsets, and more. They share a short description of what happened in the video posted below.
“Lion wanted to take buffalo kill but seemed to be too much effort for him so eventually walks away.”
Lion Vs. Buffalo
At the start of this video posted at the very top, we see that a male lion has come across this buffalo kill. Our assumption is that this lion did not kill this buffalo. We don’t see the lion as bloody had it been the one who hunted him down. Also, after a lot of lion hunts, you will see the lions, or any predator really, that will lay down next to the prey to catch their breath.
We see this male lion excited to come across this kill. After all, even lions in the wild love to have coupons for a free meal. And this basically is his coupon. Now, he only has the difficult task of dragging this buffalo back to his home. To start with, the lion knows this buffalo cannot stay out in the heat for too long, or the meat will spoil.
On the other hand, this lion may not be hungry enough to eat some. It could be this lion just ate and knows he wants to preserve it. And no animal is going to waste food; if they find it, they will bring it back.
However, the lion, though we see how big he is, just is not able to drag this buffalo. He tries but quickly realizes there’s no way he can, and he opts to leave it there.
How Much Can a Lion Eat?
In order to know how much lions can eat in a day, we need to understand just how big these lions are to appreciate what they are able to tolerate in a single meal. Male lions are much larger than female lions and can weigh as much as 550 pounds and reach over eight feet in length.
It might shock you to know that lions can eat almost a third of their body weight. They are known to be able to eat approximately 40 kilograms (or 88 pounds) of meat in just one meal.
