Although giraffes can be preyed on by lions, leopards, or hyenas, predators know not to take hunting a giraffe lightly. This 4,000 pound animal and 20 feet tall would be enough to make any animal think twice about taking it down.

But, for one hungry lion, he was willing to risk everything to get a bite. Let’s see what the giraffe does below!

At the start of this video posted at the top of this blog post, we see a hungry lion that is looking for any animal within range to feast on. Unfortunately, for the giraffe, he can’t really hide. As the tallest animal alive, he is a whopping 20 feet in height. We see that the lion spots him, and his stomach is just a little too hungry, and he decides that he will attempt to take down this beast.

The giraffe takes off at incredible speeds. He knows he can’t hide, and the only thing he can do is run. The lion gives chase, and it’s not long before the lion is able to catch up. If you pause the video at 47 seconds, it is quite laughable to see this lion isn’t even up to the giraffe’s knee. But, yet he is going to keep hunting him.

Finally, the lion stops the giraffe. He has an incredible grip on this giraffe, where he isn’t able to run anymore. We see the lion being thrown around like a rag doll, but he refuses to give up. Suddenly, at 21 seconds, this giraffe starts kicking, and the lion bolts like a scared kitten.

Can a Giraffe Kick Kill a Lion?

We know that giraffes have a powerful kick, but is it really powerful enough to kill a lion? In one word, yes. The giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) has a powerful kick of 2,000 PSI. This kind of kick would be enough to kill even an as powerful as a lion.

Some studies even go as far as to say that “its kick can not only kill a lion but has even been known to decapitate it.” Imagine having that kind of power! The lion was smart enough to run the second the giraffe started kicking its legs.
