As with any dog breed, the price of a puggle puppy will vary depending on a few factors. The two main influences on the price are your location and the pedigree of the dog. Generally speaking, a puggle puppy will usually cost between $800 and $1500. If you live in an area with a high density of breeders, chances are prices will be slightly lower on average due to competition and large supply. However, if you live in a rural area where puggle puppies are more scarce, prices will be driven up. It’s best to shop around for a while in order to get the best price possible. However, be cautious of any prices that seem too good to be true. We’ll talk more about why this is important later.

In addition, pedigreed puggles will also cost more than average. If you’re looking to purchase a puggle to enter the show dog world, you can expect the price to fall towards the higher end of the price range. However, if you’re looking to purchase a family dog, prices can be much more affordable. In addition, adoption is always an option. Although puggles aren’t often in shelters, seeing them there isn’t unheard of. Adopting a puggle will cost somewhere between $50 and $300. Be sure to keep an eye out as this lovable breed is sure to go fast!

Other Factors That Influence the Purchase Price of a Puggle

When shopping around for puggle breeders, be wary of any breeders offering insanely low prices. Although the cheap price tag may be attractive, it’s often a red flag. Puppy mills and backyard breeding operations are famous for offering shockingly low prices. However, the caveat is that they do not perform genetic testing on their animals. This often leads to their puppies inheriting congenital disorders, which are painful for the animals and expensive to treat medically.

Buying a puppy from a reputable breeder will be more expensive upfront. Despite this, many ethical breeders offer a health guarantee included in the purchase price. This is a promise from the breeder to you that they have done their due diligence in performing genetic testing. To the best of their knowledge, their puppies are perfectly healthy. If for some reason your puggle does become diagnosed with a genetic disorder outlined in the agreement, you will become eligible for some form of monetary compensation. This safety net will bring you a lot of peace of mind. Even though it might be hard to resist the low prices, avoiding unethical breeders also drives them out of operation, which is good for both owners and their puggles!

Cost of Vaccination and Other Medical Expenses for Puggles

After bringing your puggle puppy home, you’re going to want to take them in for an initial health screening, which will cost roughly $75. During this time, you can get your puppy’s first round of vaccinations done if they weren’t already provided by your breeder. The initial round of shots will cost about $100, and each set of boosters after will be roughly $40. Depending on the age of your puggle, neutering or spaying may have already been provided, In the event that it’s not, these procedures will cost between $150 and $250.

During this time, you may also want to consider microchipping your puggle. Puppies are high energy, and in case they run out the door and become lost, a microchip will provide a safety net. This procedure is affordable at just $50. In addition, a health guarantee usually only lasts for a certain period of time. Typically three years after your puppy comes home, they age out of any coverage provided by your breeder. After this point, it’s a good idea to start looking into pet insurance, which we’ll talk more about later on.

Cost of Food and Supplies for Puggles

Puggles are small-sized dogs that only grow to be between 18 and 30 pounds on average. According to petMD, at this size, your puggle should eat roughly 1 cup to 1 1/3 cups of food per day. However, there are exceptions to this rule, and young puppies who are still growing will require more calories, as well as lactating females. On average, dry food for your puggle will cost between $30 and $40 per month. Please note that this price does not include wet food or dog treats.

Grooming a puggle is also relatively easy and can be done at home. Their hair is short and easy to manage, so brushing it lightly before bathing them is sufficient. For dog shampoo, nail clippers, a buzzer, and a pair of grooming scissors, you can expect to pay about $30. Depending on what you already own, you may need other supplies such as a dog collar and leash, food and water bowls, toys, a bed, and a crate. It’s best to put aside an additional $200 for this.

After your puggle ages out of their health guarantee, purchasing pet insurance is an excellent contingency plan. Depending on where you live and the type of coverage you’re interested in, monthly prices can range between $20 and $50 on average. Although this may seem like a frivolous expense to some, having pet insurance is invaluable during a medical crisis. For many, an emergency situation at the vet can be a huge financial stressor. Having insurance helps reduce the cost of these bills, and depending on the situation, your provider may even cover the bills completely. Although puggles might be tiny, their personalities are very mighty! Even though puggles are intelligent, this small breed is usually bursting at the seams with energy. Because of this, owners may find that they are hard to calm down enough to train properly. When this happens, training classes can be an effective solution. On average, each training class will cost somewhere between $40 and $60 per session. Owners should enroll their puggles as quickly as possible after bringing them home. Professionals recommend that owners take their puppies to sessions once weekly for at least a year to guarantee that they have been fully trained.

Final Thoughts

Overall, puggles are an intelligent, curious, friendly, and affordable breed! No matter what sort of household you live in, you really can’t go wrong with choosing a puggle as your companion. However, budgeting correctly to ensure that your puppy has the best quality of life possible is paramount. On average, owners can expect to pay roughly $5,200 the first year they bring their puggle home. After this, yearly expenses will be lower at roughly $1,000. Keep in mind that owning a puggle is a long-term commitment both emotionally and financially. Be sure that you’re ready to take care of them for their whole life!
