Whether you prefer small-town life, stunning natural scenery and outdoor recreation, or the hustle and bustle of a big city, there is a wonderful community waiting for you and your family in Washington State!

1. Tri-Cities

Washington State’s Tri-Cities include Kennewick, Pasco, and Richland. All three cities are great places to raise a family in Washington, with a lower cost of living and a strong economy. The public schools in this area typically rank well, and several of the school districts even exceed state averages. In addition, there are private schools and higher education options as well.

The Tri-Cities area is considered a safe environment, with crime rates below the national average and many family-friendly activities available. The Columbia River is nearby, with plenty of opportunities for boating, swimming, fishing, camping, and hiking. In addition, there are several art galleries, museums, and sporting events to enjoy.

However, this excellent location also comes with a higher cost of living and fewer public transportation options.

However, Bellevue does have a higher cost of living, traffic can get rather congested, and the city doesn’t have as many public transportation options.

With its access to Lake Washington, as well as miles of hiking trails, beaches, and parks, there are plenty of opportunities for families to enjoy.

Although it is an island and can feel like a city unto itself, Mercer Island is also well connected to Bellevue and Seattle by ferries and bridges. However, it is a very expensive place to live, and traffic on the bridges and ferries can be a challenge for those who commute.

Snoqualmie is also more affordable than its neighboring cities of Bellevue or Seattle and is close to cities like Issaquah and North Bend.

Snoqualmie also enjoys a low crime rate and a strong sense of community. The schools here are wonderful as well, ranking among the best in the state with strong academic programs, diverse extracurriculars, and small class sizes. However, its location can feel isolated from major cities in the state.

Spokane is located near mountains, rivers, and forests, making it a great place for families who love outdoor recreation. It also offers all four seasons. However, winters can be cold, snowy, and fairly harsh, and wildfires and seasonal aversions can occasionally cause poor air quality.
