The loyalty of a dog to its owner is unparalleled. Not only are they beyond excited to see us every time we walk through the door, but they will fight just about anything to help protect us. Who could ask for anything better? Well, let’s see just how far this pitbull was willing to go in the video above to protect his owner.

Dog Defends His Property Against Invader

This short YouTube video clip shown at the top of this blog post takes us to the Philippines, where a loyal pitbull defends his owner and their yard against a predatory invader. The San Juan La Union Vlog shared this video on their platform that shares everything about the Philippines. Their most popular reels are of sharks, adorable pigs, and general life in the Philippines.

Pitbull Challenges a Snake

As the video begins, we see a stocky pitbull that has found a snake in his yard. He immediately goes on the defensive and starts barking ferociously at the snake. The snake starts to coil its body in an S-type shape.

This type of behavior can often be confused with “periscoping.” However, according to the National Library of Medicine, periscope is a “vertical movement of the head (and sometimes part of the body) upwards with a 45º angle or greater, not in an s-curve position.”

The S-shape coil makes the snake seem ready to fight in the face of their enemy. It also provides them the best bodily advantage that they need to strike. In this position, snakes will often hiss. As we can see from the video above, the snake is hissing to let his enemy know he’s willing to fight, just as the pitbull is barking loudly.

The pitbull rushes in and tries to bite the snake. But the snake is coiling, which doesn’t leave the dog a good advantage when charging. Suddenly, the snake tries to escape. But the dog is quicker. He grabs the snake in the middle. And begins to shake and slam the snake to the ground viciously.

We could all learn a thing or two from our pets, and especially our dogs. Sometimes, consistent barking can be very frustrating, no matter which way you look at it. However, we need to take ourselves out of that frustration by looking at the “why” behind the bark.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) shares that a dog may bark when “when they’re excited, frustrated, bored or scared. If a dog feels threatened, they may bark to tell somebody to stay away or to leave.”

So, the next time your dog is barking, ask yourself, “Why are they barking?” In the case of this video above, the owner of this house was filming this interaction between his pitbull and this snake. his dog was barking to alert the presence of danger and for him to stay back.
