Parrots are adorable birds and make great pets for those with experience. Owning a parrot is a big commitment. They need space to fly and constant interaction to thrive. Parrots are very social birds. They can also sometimes be picky eaters. Although the bulk of a parrot’s diet should be nutritious and high-quality pellets, they also need to consume fresh fruits and vegetables. Not all fruits and vegetables are safe though. So, what about grapes? Can parrots eat grapes, and if yes, are there special steps? Follow along to find out.

Parrots can eat grapes. While parrots can eat grapes, you should only give them to your pet in moderation. These hydrating fruits are small enough to consume and are filled with nutrients and vitamins like Vitamin C and potassium. They also have a high sugar content. Fruits and vegetables should make up no more than 10% of your bird’s diet.

How To Feed Your Parrot Grapes

Although parrots can eat grapes, these delicious fruits should be served in moderation. This is because while grapes are nutritious, they don’t have all the nutrients your pet needs. Your bird can become too full and suffer from nutritional deficiencies. You should only feed your parrot about half a grape every other day or once to twice a week. But, how do you prepare the grapes? Should they be cut?

1. Thoroughly Wash Grapes

Whenever serving any fruit or vegetable to your parrot, it’s important to thoroughly wash and rinse it. Many fruits, including grapes, are treated with pesticides. There may still be a residue of this on the fruit. You can either rinse and rub the grape, or use a vinegar mixture to clean it. Vinegar is safe for parrots.

2. Cut Grapes

Not everyone cuts grapes for their pet bird. However, to make it easier for your feathery friend, you can cut grapes into small bite-sized pieces. Another way to cut a grape is in half as some parrots like the juicy center of the grape the most.
