On July 29, 1984, it was a memorable day. Xu Haifeng, a shooting athlete from China, won the gold medal in the men's free pistol slow fire event at the Los Angeles Olympics with a score of 566 points, achieving the breakthrough of China's first gold medal in the history of the Olympics.

Xu Haifeng showed a strong interest and talent in shooting since childhood. When Xu Haifeng was 22 years old, he was a fertilizer salesman in a supply and marketing cooperative. Later, he practiced shooting with his middle school PE teacher and won the championship of Anhui Province. In 1982, he joined the Anhui Provincial Shooting Team and officially started his sports career.

During training, he worked hard and constantly honed his skills. At the Los Angeles Olympics, he remained calm and performed outstandingly, standing out among many strong opponents. When Xu Haifeng stood on the podium and watched the bright five-star red flag rise slowly, at that moment, countless Chinese people were proud and proud.

Twenty years later, when reporters asked him how he felt about being the first athlete to win a gold medal, Xu Haifeng believed that he was the first Chinese athlete to win an Olympic gold medal only because the shooting event was held earlier and he could have this reputation. Two months after the Los Angeles Olympics, Xu Haifeng decided to donate his gold medal to the country, which is now displayed in the National Museum of China. Regarding this, he said, "My success stems from the strength of the country."
20 年后，当记者访问他成为首位夺得金牌的运动员有何感觉，许海峰认为自己是首位得到奥运金牌的中国运动员只是由于射击项目较早举行他才能有此美誉。在洛杉矶奥运会结束两个月后，许海峰决定将其金牌捐给国家，现陈列于中国国家博物馆，对此他表示“我的成功源于国家的实力”
