用英语讲好中国故事：柳暗花明 Every cloud has a silver lining

In the Southern Song Dynasty, the famous poet Lu You was dismissed from his official position for offending the powerful. After that, he returned to his hometown of Shanyin and led a leisure life for three years.

南宋时期，著名诗人陆游因得罪权贵而被免去官职。此后，他回到了故乡山阴，过起了闲居生活，这一闲就是三年。

Lu You was eager to serve his country, but he was idle at home. He was depressed and full of pain, so he could only spend his time reading every day.

陆游一心渴望为国家贡献力量，然而却只能赋闲在家，内心抑郁不平，痛苦万分，只能每天以读书来打发时间。

It was about a year later that his mood gradually became cheerful. Then he began to travel around nearby places. He grew up in the countryside since childhood and had a very harmonious relationship with the villagers.

大约过了一年，他的心情才逐渐变得开朗起来，接着便开始在附近四处游历。他自小在农村长大，和村民们的关系十分融洽。

One day in April, the sun was shining brightly and everywhere was filled with the breath of spring. Lu You went to visit the West Mountain alone, which was twenty miles away. On the way to the West Mountain, he needed to cross several small mountains. Lu You walked slowly up the hillside beside the river with a walking stick, crossing one mountain after another and bypassing one small river after another.

在四月的某一天，阳光灿烂，到处充满着春天的气息。陆游独自一人前往二十里之外的西山游玩。去往西山的路上，需要翻越好几座小山头。陆游拄着拐杖，沿着河流旁边的山坡缓缓往上攀登，翻过了一座又一座山头，绕过了一条又一条小河。

Finally, he reached a place and felt that it seemed to be the end and there was no way ahead.

最后，他走到一个地方，感觉似乎已经走到了尽头，前方再无路可行。

Just when he was hesitant, he turned a corner and surprisingly found a flat area full of green willows and brilliant flowers in the valley ahead. A small village appeared in front of him.

正当他犹豫不决的时候，拐了个弯，竟发现前面的山谷中有一片绿柳成荫、繁花似锦的平地，一座小村庄出现在他的眼前。

Lu You happily walked into the village. The villagers were very friendly and warmly entertained him. Lu You was deeply impressed by this trip. After returning home, he wrote a seven-character regulated poem "Visiting a Village West of the Mountain".

陆游满心欢喜地走进村里，村民们非常友善，热情地款待了他。这次出游给陆游留下了深刻的印象，回到家后，他提笔创作了一首七言律诗《游山西村》。

This story is a metaphor that when it seems there is no hope for development, suddenly there is a new turn and a way out appears.

这个故事比喻在看似没有发展希望的情况下，忽然又迎来了新的转机，绝处逢生。

莫笑农家腊酒浑，丰年留客足鸡豚。

山重水复疑无路，柳暗花明又一村。

箫鼓追随春社近，衣冠简朴古风存。

从今若许闲乘月，拄杖无时夜叩门。
