In the state of Qi, there was a person who was extremely timid.
He worried all day that the sky might fall and crush him, or that the ground might sink and swallow him up.
Just thinking about these possibilities made him lose his appetite.
At night, he would worry, "What if the stars and the moon fall and hit me?"
As a result, he couldn't sleep well either.
He lived in a constant daze, and his body grew thinner by the day.
His friend concerned that this would harm his health, tried to comfort him: "The sky is just a collection of air. When you speak or breathe, it's all air. Why should you worry about it? The moon and stars are merely glowing clusters of gas. Even if they were to fall, they wouldn't hurt you."
Hearing this, he found it reasonable, but his worries weren't over: "What if the ground sinks, then what?"
His friend continued, "The ground is just a mass of piled-up rocks. You walk on it every day, and it becomes more solid underfoot. Why worry about it collapsing?"
After his friend's explanation, he finally felt relieved and began to eat and sleep well.
Being aware of potential dangers is good, but it's unnecessary to excessively worry about things that are unlikely to happen or beyond our control.
