The Little Horse Crosses the River
Once upon a time, there was a lively and lovely little horse. It lived in a beautiful village. Beside the village was a winding river. The little horse had always been full of curiosity about this river and always wanted to explore the other side.
One day, the little horse heard that there was a grand animal carnival in the forest on the other side of the river. It was extremely excited and decided to go to this grand event. The little horse cheerfully ran to the riverbank. Looking at the flowing river, it was a bit hesitant. How deep is this river? Can I cross it?
Just when the little horse was hesitating, a little squirrel jumped down from the tree. The little squirrel nervously said to the little horse, "Little horse, you mustn't cross the river! This river is very deep. A few days ago, one of my little friends accidentally fell in and never came up again." The little horse was so scared that it took a few steps back.
But the little horse was not willing to give up just like that. It thought for a while and decided to ask someone else. After a while, an old buffalo came slowly. The little horse quickly ran forward and asked, "Grandpa Buffalo, can I cross this river?" The old buffalo smiled and said, "Child, this river is very shallow. It only reaches my calf. Cross the river with confidence."
Now the little horse was in a dilemma. The little squirrel said the river was very deep, while Grandpa Buffalo said it was very shallow. Whose words should it listen to? The little horse stood by the river, thinking hard. Finally, it decided to try it by itself.
The little horse carefully walked into the river. At first, the river only covered its hooves. The little horse was secretly happy. But as it walked on, the river became deeper and deeper, and gradually reached its belly. The little horse began to be a bit nervous, but it still summoned up courage and continued to move forward.
Finally, the little horse successfully crossed the river. It found that the river was neither as deep as the little squirrel said nor as shallow as Grandpa Buffalo said. The little horse happily ran towards the forest. It had a great time at the animal carnival.
From then on, the little horse understood a truth: When encountering things, we can't just listen to others. We need to be brave to try and then we can find the real answer.
