Witness This Fearless Elephant Herd Chase a Lion Pride Away from a Watering Hole

It’s hard for us to imagine any animal going up against a lion might win. Taking it a step further to an animal going up against a whole lion pride is just something worthy to take note of! We might imagine some hyenas or a cheetah; however, in reality, those animals don’t typically mess with lions.

However, the big African elephant that weighs almost 12,000 pounds, almost 24 times more than the average male elephant, just might make the cut. Let’s see why in the video just below!

Elephant Herd and Lion Pride Sighting in Africa

The next YouTube video posted at the top of this blog post takes us to Africa. This video was shared by the Incredible Wild Animals Sighting Channel. On this YouTube page, we will see all sorts of famous animals, such as the buffalo, lion, hyena, wildebeest, and leopard, to list a few. They share a short description of the events that took place in the video below.

“The elephants attacking the lion staying in the waterhole and elephants know the lions is their enemy predator that hunting a prey like the elephant and so elephant take and action to take away the lions in the waterhole and elephant is more strong than lion but lion is powerful and smart to attack prey.”

Elephant Herd Vs. Lion Pride

At the start of this video, we see that a lion pride is lounging right next to a watering hole. The water is where we will eventually see all the animals. They come to hydrate and cool off. And they also come to find suspecting prey that will also need to come and drink water. This lion pride decided to linger after their hydration and cooling-off period to relax.

However, in the distance, we can see that a small group of elephants are coming up to this watering hole. And the giant elephant in front doesn’t seem particularly happy that these lions are out. Then, the whole elephant herd follows his example and starts to kick this pride out.

How Many Elephants Are in a Herd?

Elephants of the family Elephantidae can be found in both Asia and Africa. These large mammals are social animals that live in a herd. A herd is just another term for a group. Just like there is a pride for lions or a pod of orcas.

Elephant herds can range in size; a small family of elephants may have as little as 10 members. And families can join bigger families that will form a herd of up to 70 members on some occasions.

According to the Euclid Public Library, “The herd is led by a matriarch who works to find food, water, and safe places to sleep. All the adult female elephants work together to care for new babies.”
