Komodo Dragon Regurgitates a Huge Eel After Hunting on a Sandy Beach
Not much scares the Komodo dragon when it comes to hunting down large animals. They are known even to hunt and eat horses! However, sometimes the meal just doesn’t quite stick. Let’s see what happened in the video below.

Komodo Dragon Sighting
The YouTube video above takes us to the beach. We see an enormous Komodo dragon. Seeing one up so close really gives a whole new perspective on just how large these lizards truly can be. You can see every muscle, every claw, and you can even see the strength in its neck as it moves about.
This Komodo dragon has just found a moray eel to eat and has just swallowed it by the start of this video. Only he seems to be having just a little bit of trouble. We see him start hacking, and the eel starts coming up again. The Komodo dragon tries to stomach it back down, but then the eel comes up even more, and then more. All the way to the point where the moray eel is now completely regurgitated and is on the ground.
It might seem impressive to us if we look at it that a Komodo dragon is able to regurgitate all their food like that at once. According to Virginia Aquarium, “Just as quickly as they can consume large amounts when threatened, Komodos can also regurgitate the contents of their stomachs to lessen their weight in order to flee.”
What Do Komodo Dragons Eat?
Komodo dragons (Varanus komodoensis) of the family Varanidae are carnivorous eaters. They have voracious appetites and are able to eat up to 80% of their body weight. The Louisville Zoo reported that a Komodo dragon that weighed 101 pounds was able to eat a wild pig that weighed 90 pounds!
The Komodo dragon preys on animals such as pigs, deer, water buffalo, pigs, goats, and even horses. As we can see, the Komodo dragon has no fear at all when it comes to hunting down large prey.
How Big are Komodo Dragons?
We can see from the video at the top that this Komodo dragon is just a whopper in terms of size. And that’s because they can weigh anywhere from 150-300 pounds and can reach anywhere from 6-10 feet in length. The largest Komodo dragon weighed 365 pounds and over 10 feet in length.
Despite how much they weigh and how long they are, it is still incredible to think of the animals they are able to hunt down and eat.
