Are Dogs Allowed in Kohl's? 3 Important Rules to Know
Do you love shopping at Kohl’s? You’re not alone. With over 1,100 stores in 49 states, it’s a regular destination for many shoppers. And what makes shopping at your favorite store even better is when you can bring your dog along. Many retailers welcome dogs these days. But does Kohl’s allow your pup to accompany you? Here’s what to know about if dogs are allowed in Kohl’s.
Is Kohl’s Dog-Friendly?
What is Kohl’s official policy on pet dogs inside the stores? The consensus is that dogs are not allowed in Kohl’s. But take this information with a large grain of salt. There doesn’t appear to be an official policy on the matter listed on Kohl’s website. That means it’s likely up to the individual store to decide whether your pet dog is welcome or not.
Rules for Dogs in Kohl’s
Because each Kohl’s location may handle policies on dogs differently, you should always call the store you’re planning to visit and ask them before just walking in with your pet. The store may not allow dogs for any number of reasons, such as concerns about the health and safety of other shoppers. The location may not want to be liable for anything that happens due to a dog entering the store.
If you are allowed to bring your dog into a Kohl’s near you, there are some things you should do that show common courtesy to other shoppers.
Keep your dog leashed. Keeping your dog under your control is the most important thing you can do. Not everyone loves your pet like you do. Additionally, you don’t want to risk any damage to merchandise.
Clean up after your dog. In the event your dog has an accident, clean it up promptly. It’s your responsibility as the pet owner to deal with anything your dog does within the store.
Leave if asked. If the store manager determines your dog is bothering other shoppers and asks you to leave, don’t fight it. It’s a privilege to bring your pet shopping with you, not a given.
Rules for Service Dogs
The only exception to whether or not dogs are allowed in Kohl’s pertains to service animals. Under the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), service dogs have the right to enter any location that the general public is allowed to enter. This includes government buildings, schools, hospitals, and of course, shops.
If you have a service dog, you have the right to enter a Kohl’s store without showing proof of your dog’s certification or training. However, the store manager does have the right to ask if your dog is a service dog and what they are trained to do. For example, a service dog may be trained to bark if their handler is showing symptoms of a certain condition and it’s within the store’s right to understand that this may happen. Keep in mind even service dogs may be asked to leave a store if they are not under the owner’s control.
The bottom line: if you would like to take your dog shopping with you at Kohl’s, it’s up to the particular store that you’re visiting. But don’t be surprised if they say no pets are allowed.
