The era of our country can be divided into four periods: ancient, modern, modern, and contemporary.
1. Ancient times
The Opium War of 1840 was a watershed for China, marking its entry into a semi feudal and semi colonial society. Using this as a dividing line, the era before 1840 is called ancient.
During this period, it can be divided into five stages.
The first stage, the Warring States, Qin, and Han dynasties, was the stage of the formation and initial development of feudal society.
The second stage, during the Three Kingdoms, Two Jin Dynasties, and Northern and Southern Dynasties, was a period of feudal division and national integration.
The third stage, the Sui, Tang, and Five Dynasties period, was a prosperous stage of feudal society.
The fourth stage was the Liao, Song, Xia, Jin, and Yuan dynasties, during which ethnic integration was further strengthened and feudal economy continued to develop.
The fifth stage was the Ming and Qing dynasties before the Opium War, during which a unified multi-ethnic country was consolidated and the feudal system gradually declined.
2. Modern times
In the May Fourth Movement of 1919, China entered the period of new democratic revolution from the old democratic revolution.
The period between 1840 and May 4, 1919, with this as the dividing line, is called the modern era, also known as the Old Democratic Revolution period.
During this period, Zhang Kaiyuan divided it into three stages.
The first stage, from 1840 to 1873, was the beginning of a semi colonial and semi feudal society and the peak of the first revolution.
The second stage, from 1873 to 1905, was the period of the complete formation of a semi colonial and semi feudal society and the peak of the second revolution.
In the third stage, from 1905 to 1919, the semi colonial and semi feudal society continued to develop and the third revolutionary climax and the brewing period of the New Democratic Revolution.
3. Modern
On October 1, 1949, the People's Republic of China was established.
The period between May 4, 1919 and October 1, 1949, with this as the dividing line, is called the modern era, also known as the period of the New Democratic Revolution.
During this period, it can be divided into four stages.
The first stage, from May 4th, 1919 to the failure of the Great Revolution in 1927, was known as the Northern Expedition War.
The second stage, from 1927 to 1937, was known as the Land Revolution period.
The third stage, from 1937 to 1945, was known as the Anti Japanese War period.
The fourth stage, from 1945 to 1949, is known as the Liberation War period.
4. Contemporary
From October 1, 1949 until now, it has been called contemporary.
During this period, it can be divided into three stages.
The first stage, from 1949 to 1956, was the transitional period from the New Democratic Revolution to socialism.
The second stage, from 1956 to 1976, was the period of socialist construction,
During this period, from 1956 to 1966 was a ten-year exploration period; The period from 1966 to 1976 was the Cultural Revolution
The third stage, from 1976 to present, is a new era of socialist modernization construction.
Some people also refer to the period from the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 1978 to the present as the period of reform and opening up.
