Located close to these ski resorts are some of the most picturesque ski towns that you can find in the state! Check out these fairytale ski towns you must visit if you intend to hit the slopes in Nevada.

1. Incline Village

With a population of nearly 9,000, Incline Village sits at an impressive elevation of 6,350 feet. This town is nestled into the northernmost crook of Lake Tahoe and boasts plenty of year-round activities. Charming eateries, markets, shops, and friendly locals are just some of the reasons why so many people head here every year. The town was established in 1882 and was named after the SNW&L incline railway that serviced the area. Many people head to the mountainside cabins to capture stunning views of Lake Tahoe.

The winter season holds a special place in many residents’ and tourists’ hearts because it receives heavy amounts of snowfall on average. Many snow-related activities can be enjoyed at the nearby Diamond Peak Ski Resort. Another big draw is the variety of breweries to hang out at after an eventful day of skiing and snowboarding. The town is also famous for its expensive lakefront luxury homes, creating a highly competitive market for real estate enthusiasts. The proximity to nature and trails has created a strong desire among residents to protect the beauty of the area. That’s where the “Keep Tahoe Blue” slogan came from!

2. New Washoe

The unincorporated town known as New Washoe has been gaining popularity! It’s nestled between Reno and Carson City on the eastern side of Washoe Lake. This town is relatively young, having been established in 1961 as a planned community. The town named itself after the original Washoe City, which is now considered a ghost town! People head to the region to visit Mount Rose Ski, Tahoe, and Washoe Lake State Park. The reported census 2010 showed a population of just 2,875, but the area is now home to over 12,000!

Though the area doesn’t see as much snowfall as the previous city, it still becomes a beautiful, snowy spot in the winter, with around 35 inches per year. This town calls to nature enthusiasts, offering scenic trails to hike or explore on horseback. Regional parks are plenty here, too. Visit the local candy factory for some sweet confections, too! Hit up the local bars and restaurants to indulge in great local fare.

3. Gardnerville

Another unincorporated town had ended up on the list, and it’s easily the coziest of all the options. Gardnerville is a sleepy little town that has plenty to offer. There’s a reason to head here every season, though it’s most popular during winter thanks to how close it is to ski resorts. Lovely little hotels and local eateries are a hit with tourists and locals alike.

A popular spot is the gorgeous Heritage Park Gardens, where you can play a game of life-size chess or checkers! If you happen to head here in the summer, you must experience the fresh berries at Jacobs Family Berry Farm. At an elevation of about 4,700 feet, the location of this city means that they experience pretty mild winters. The area only sees about 25 inches of snow yearly, but the nearby slopes will always have enough snow for skiing.

4. Genoa

The historic little town of Genoa is located at the base of the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada Range. This unincorporated town is older than you might think! Founded in 1851 by Mormon traders, the town began as a trading post and a station for provisions. Wagons heading through here would stock up on goods as they passed along the Emigrant Trail. It’s a decent elevation at 4,806 ft and has minimal snowfall of under 20 inches per year.

This little town is close to plenty of parks, hiking trails, and historical attractions for history buffs who love to explore. The local Victorian buildings are truly beautiful to behold during the winter season! Many people head here after a day of skiing to relax at the Genoa Bar & Saloon. You can also enjoy a few rounds of golf at Genoa Lakes Golf Club. If you’re looking for luxury, you can make reservations at the nearby David Walley’s Resort, where you can take a dip in their on-site hot springs!
