In ancient times, there was a boy named Cao Chong who was very smart. His father Cao Cao was a prime minister.
Once, Sun Quan gave Cao Cao an elephant. Cao Cao led many people and his youngest son Cao Chong to see what the elephant looked like.
Cao Cao said to everyone: "This elephant is really big, but how heavy is it? Who of you can weigh it?"
The ministers started to discuss, and everyone racked their brains to think of a solution.
After a while, someone suggested: "I think we can order people to build a big scale and drive the elephant onto the scale, so that the weight of the elephant can be weighed."
At this time, someone objected and said: "No, no, how big a scale would it take to build? This method is not good."
At this time, someone else suggested: "I think it is better to kill the elephant and cut it into pieces, so that it can be weighed."
Everyone said: "No, it's too cruel! It's a pity to kill the elephant just to weigh it!"
At this time, Cao Chong came over and said: "I have a good idea."
Cao Cao said: "Son, what good idea do you have?"
Cao Chong said: "Father, watch me, you will know what's going on after I weigh it."
Cao Chong asked the servant to lead the elephant and follow him to the river, and asked someone to row a big boat to the river to wait. When they arrived at the river, Cao Chong said to the servant: "Please lead the elephant to the boat."
The elephant got on the boat, and the boat sank a lot and was soaked in water. Cao Chong ordered: "Please help me make a mark on the boat that is level with the water."
After the mark was made, Cao Chong ordered his servants to bring the elephant to the shore, and the boat floated to its original position.
Then, Cao Chong asked people to bring a lot of stones and put them into the boat. As more and more stones were put in, the boat slowly sank, and the hull sank to the place where the engraved line was.
When Cao Chong saw that the mark on the hull was level with the water, he quickly called for a stop: "Don't load any more."
Cao Chong asked the servants to take the stones off the boat and said: "Weigh these stones, and the weight of the stones together is the weight of the elephant."
Everyone said: "This is a great idea, why can't we think of it?" Everyone praised Cao Chong for being a smart child.
The story of Cao Chong weighing the elephant tells us: age is not important, the key is to be good at observation when encountering things, use your brain to think of ways, and children can also do great things.
