英语绘本 ▏每日一读之《晏子使楚 Yan Zi's Mission To Chu》
春秋末年，齐国和楚国都是比较强大的国家。
In the late Spring and Autumn Period, Qi and Chu were both relatively powerful countries.
傲慢的楚王总想找机会羞辱齐国，好显示楚国的威风。
The arrogant King of Chu always wanted to find an opportunity to humiliate Qi in order to show the power of Chu.
齐国的晏子即将出使楚国，楚王知道这个消息之后哈哈大笑，他心想：“羞辱齐国的机会来了。”
When Yan Zi of Qi was about to go on a diplomatic mission to Chu, the King of Chu laughed and thought to himself: "The opportunity to humiliate Qi has come."
楚王知道晏子的个子矮，就命人在城门旁边开了一个小洞。
Knowing that Yan Zi was short, the King of Chu ordered people to open a small hole next to the city gate.
这一天晏子骑车一匹大马来到楚国，可是楚国的城门却关的严严实实的。
On this day, Yan Zi rode a big horse to Chu, but the city gate of Chu was tightly closed.
楚国将军指着旁边的小洞说：“我们国君知道你要来，特地为你开了一个新门。”
The general of Chu pointed to the small hole next to him and said: "Our king knew you were coming, so he opened a new door for you."
晏子走到小门前，左看看右看看，说道：“这是狗洞吧？出使狗国才从狗洞进去，可是我出使的是楚国啊。”
Yan Zi walked to the small door, looked left and right, and said: "Is this a dog hole? Only when you go to a dog country can you enter through a dog hole, but I am going to Chu."
将军气得无话可说，只好打开城门，迎接晏子进去。
The general was so angry that he had nothing to say, so he had to open the city gate and welcome Yan Zi in.
晏子来到大殿上，楚王瞥了一眼晏子，嘲笑道：“怎么？齐国是没有人了吗？”
Yan Zi came to the hall. The King of Chu glanced at Yan Zi and laughed, "What? Is there no one in Qi?"
晏子知道楚王这是在讥讽自己，便严肃的说道：“齐国的都城临淄住满了人”
Yan Zi knew that the King of Chu was mocking him, so he said seriously, "The capital of Qi, Linzi, is full of people."
楚王说：“既然那么多人，为何派你来？”
The King of Chu said, "Since there are so many people, why send you?"
晏子假装为难的说道：“齐国有个规矩，出使上等的国家就派有本事的人去，像我这么没出息的，就只能被派来楚国了。哈哈哈哈哈”说完晏子便笑了。
Yan Zi pretended to be embarrassed and said, "There is a rule in Qi that capable people are sent to superior countries. People like me who are useless can only be sent to Chu. Hahahahaha" Yan Zi laughed after saying that.
楚王也只能红着脸尴尬的笑了笑。
The King of Chu could only smile awkwardly with a red face.
楚王两次都没有羞辱到晏子，于是决定在酒席上好好的羞辱晏子一番。
The King of Chu failed to humiliate Yan Zi twice, so he decided to humiliate Yan Zi at the banquet.
楚王让士兵一会儿押着一名囚犯进来，就说是齐国人。
The King of Chu asked the soldiers to bring in a prisoner and say that he was from Qi.
楚王带着晏子来到了迎宾阁，正当他们吃的高兴的时候。
The King of Chu brought Yan Zi to the welcoming pavilion, and just when they were eating happily.
突然有两名士兵押着一名囚犯走了进来。
Suddenly, two soldiers came in with a prisoner.
楚王故意问道：“他犯了何罪啊？是哪里人？”
The King of Chu deliberately asked: "What crime did he commit? Where is he from?"
一名士兵回答道：“回大王，他犯了盗窃罪，是齐国人。”
A soldier replied: "Reply to the king, he committed the crime of theft and is from Qi."
楚王冷笑了一声，转头看向晏子说道：“齐国人怎么干出这种事啊，我们楚国可没有这样的人”
The King of Chu sneered, turned his head and looked at Yan Zi and said: "How could a Qi person do such a thing? We don't have such a person in Chu."
众人想：“这下晏子的脸可要丢尽啦！”
Everyone thought: "Yan Zi will lose face now!"
没想到晏子一脸从容的起身说道：“淮南的橘树一种到淮北，就只能结出苦涩的枳子，这是因为水土不同啊。齐国人一到楚国就做了盗贼，也是这个原因吧！”
Unexpectedly, Yan Zi stood up calmly and said: "The orange trees in Huainan can only produce bitter tangerines when they are planted in Huaibei. This is because the water and soil are different. The people of Qi became thieves when they arrived in Chu. This is also the reason!"
楚王的脸涨得通红，说不出话来。他原本想羞辱晏子，没想到反而让晏子取笑了一番。
The King of Chu's face turned red and he was speechless. He originally wanted to humiliate Yan Zi, but he didn't expect that Yan Zi would make fun of him instead.
从那以后，楚王再也不敢向齐国挑衅了。
From then on, the King of Chu never dared to provoke Qi again.
