Wu Song went home to visit his brother. It was noon. Wu Song was hungry. He saw a hotel in front of him.
There was a flag in front of the door with five words written on it: Three bowls and you won’t cross the Ridge.
Wu Song didn’t care at all. He drank 18 bowls in total. After drinking, he picked up a wooden stick and staggered to Jingyang Ridge.
The store owner hurriedly shouted: "Sir, there is a tiger on Jingyang Ridge. If you cross the hill so late, you will lose your life in vain. Why don’t you rest at my house and wait until tomorrow when you gather 30 or 20 people to cross the hill together."
Wu Song laughed and said: "I am from Qinghe County. I often walk on Jingyang Ridge. How come there is no tiger? Don’t say such words to scare me. Even if there is a tiger, I am not afraid."
After that, he turned and walked towards Jingyang Ridge.
After walking for a while, he saw a big tree with a white bark scraped off the trunk.
There were two lines of words written on it: "Recently, tigers have injured people on Jingyang Ridge. If you are a passing merchant, you can take advantage of the noon to cross the ridge in a group. Please do not make mistakes."
Wu Song thought that this was written by the innkeeper to scare people.
When the sun was about to set, Wu Song came to a dilapidated temple and saw a government notice posted on the temple door. The content was exactly the same as what was written on the tree.
After reading it, Wu Song realized that there was really a tiger on the mountain. Because of the alcohol, Wu Song found a large bluestone and lay on his back.
Just as he was about to fall asleep, he suddenly heard a gust of wind whistling, and a colorful tiger pounced on him. Wu Song quickly dodged and hid behind the tiger.
The tiger jumped, and Wu Song dodged again. The tiger got anxious when he saw that he couldn't catch it. He roared and hit Wu Song with his tail.
Wu Song jumped away again in a hurry. When the tiger turned around, Wu Song raised the stick, exerted all his strength, and hit the tiger's head fiercely. With a "crack", the branch was knocked down with leaves.
Wu Song looked carefully and found that he didn't hit the tiger with the stick, but hit the tree. It turned out that he was too anxious to hit the tiger, and the stick in his hand was broken into two pieces, leaving only half in his hand.
The tiger was anxious and rushed towards Wu Song again. Wu Song threw away the half stick and rode on the tiger's back.
He grabbed the skin on the tiger's head with his left hand and hit the tiger's head with his right hand. Soon, the tiger's eyes, nose, mouth, and ears were bleeding everywhere, and it lay on the ground unable to move.
Wu Song was afraid that the tiger was pretending to be dead, so he raised the half stick and hit it for a while. He stopped when he saw that the tiger was really dead.
Wu Song thought to himself: "I will take this dead tiger off the ridge." So he used his hands to drag the tiger in the pool of blood, but he couldn't drag it.
It turned out that Wu Song had used up all his strength and his hands and feet were limp.
Wu Song returned to the bluestone and sat down to rest. He thought that it would be dark soon. If another tiger jumped out, it would be troublesome. He had no strength to fight it anymore.
Thinking of this, Wu Song decided to go down the ridge first and deal with it tomorrow morning.
The next day, the villagers followed Wu Song to Jingyang Ridge. They were very happy to see that the tiger that usually acted arrogantly was motionless.
So everyone carried the harmful tiger down the mountain together.
