从前，有一只狐狸和一只鹳（guàn）是好朋友。
Once upon a time, there was a fox and a stork who were good friends.
有一天，狐狸请鹳到家里吃饭。
One day, the fox invited the stork to his home for dinner.
狐狸做了一顿美味的汤，但他把汤放在一个很浅的盘子里。
The fox made a delicious soup, but he served it in a very shallow dish.
狐狸可以很轻松地舔到汤，但鹳因为嘴巴很长却喝不到一点汤。
The fox could easily lick up the soup, but the stork, with his long beak, couldn't get any.
鹳觉得很饿，但他很有礼貌，没有说什么。
The stork was very hungry, but he was polite and didn't say anything.
几天后，鹳也请狐狸到他家吃饭。
A few days later, the stork invited the fox to his home for dinner.
鹳也做了一顿美味的汤，但他把汤放在一个长颈瓶里。
The stork also made a delicious soup, but he served it in a long-necked jar.
鹳可以用长嘴巴喝到汤，但狐狸却怎么也喝不到。
The stork could drink the soup with his long beak, but the fox couldn't get any.
狐狸终于明白了鹳的感受，他对鹳说：“对不起，我不应该那么做。”
The fox finally understood how the stork felt. He said to the stork, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that."
鹳微笑着说：“这次我们互相理解了。”
The stork smiled and said, "Now we understand each other."
