In a battle, Guan Yu was captured by Cao Cao in order to protect Liu Bei and his two wives. Cao Cao appreciated Guan Yu very much, so he did not make things difficult for them and let them live in his camp.
Cao Cao brought Guan Yu a lot of gold, silver and jewelry. Guan Yu just kept saying: "I will leave immediately when I know the whereabouts of my brother Liu Bei."
Cao Cao also gave Guan Yu a red rabbit horse, and Guan Yu accepted it happily and said: "With this red rabbit horse, I can see my brother Liu Bei soon."
A few months later, Guan Yu finally received news from Liu Bei, and he was very happy. He hurriedly took two wives to find Liu Bei.
As soon as Guan Yu left, Cao Cao issued an order: "Let the guards at the checkpoints along the way stop Guan Yu."
At the first checkpoint, the guard general stopped Guan Yu and said: "Without the documents of Prime Minister Cao, we can't let you pass."
Guan Yu was so angry that he shouted: "Who dares to block my way!" After that, Guan Yu slapped the horse's butt hard, raised his sword and rushed to the city gate.
The guard was so frightened that he didn't move. Guan Yu pushed him away and passed the checkpoint with two wives.

The guards at the fourth checkpoint wanted to secretly set fire to Guan Yu, but were also noticed by Guan Yu. He beat the guards back in a few strokes and passed another checkpoint.
Guan Yu came to the Yellow River ferry and was stopped by several guards. Guan Yu shouted anxiously: "I'm about to see my brother, so I don't have time to talk nonsense with you!" After that, he beat the guards to pieces in a few strokes.
Guan Yu passed through five passes in a row, defeated six guarding generals, and finally arrived in front of the ancient city. Guan Yu saw Zhang Fei standing at the gate of the city, and hurriedly ran over happily.
Unexpectedly, Zhang Fei scolded Guan Yu: "You have surrendered to Cao Cao. Do you want to kill us with Cao Cao this time?"
Guan Yu was so anxious that he couldn't speak when he saw that Zhang Fei had misunderstood him. At this time, Liu Bei's two wives stepped forward to help Guan Yu clarify the truth of the matter.
At this time, another of Cao Cao's men came up with troops and horses. Zhang Fei said to Guan Yu: "I will beat the drum three times. If you can knock this person down before the drum falls, I will believe you."
